Media Tribe> PJC – Special Issue on Drugs (Vol:3, No.3, July 2011)

Dear All,

Though Pakistan has recently launched its new Anti-narcotics policy (2010) yet many think it, like the previous, a mere document short of action and implementation.  It came into light after a few years of lapse since the end of the previous policy. The prospects of success of war on drugs in the last few decades, according to some assessments, are not dissimilar to the stories of 'war on poverty', and now 'war on terror'. However, amid such claims and counter claims, researchers would like to critically evaluate the impacts of such anti-narcotic strategies and actions.

Pakistan remains a focal state in both war on drugs and war on terror, due to its peculiar geo-political position and significance. How far is the issue of drugs a law-enforcement issue in Pakistan, and how successfully we have fought or are fighting this battle is an open question for debate and analysis. The Pakistan Journal of Criminology has dedicated its July, 2011 (Vol.3 No.3) issue to the problem of drugs, and anti-narcotic policies in Pakistan. Poppy-cultivation, substance abuse, drugs pushing, narcotics smuggling, drugs-terror continuum, data on drugs offences, role of law-enforcement agencies, government initiatives, legislation on drugs, role of NGOs in rehabilitation and reintegration of drug users, evaluation of anti-narcotic policies, and many other relevant topics will be included in this special issue. Best practices of anti-narcotic agencies in other countries will also be accommodated for reference and guidance. Papers by local and foreign experts are invited (with max. 5000 words) till May 31st, 2011. The issue will be of paramount importance in the sense that there is no such indigenous research or authentic report on drugs issues in Pakistan, especially in the last few years.

with best regards.
