Govt Planning Another Move To Annoy Supreme Court

Hide Massive Corruption, Getting Loans High On Agenda

Government has decided in principle to appoint Mr. Ali Raza as Chairman of the National Bank of Pakistan.

Earlier, the Finance Ministry asked Ministry of Law for an opinion. The Law Ministry has sent reply that is presently on the table of Finance Secretary.

According to sources, it reads, "The decision of the Supreme Court is very clear and government can proceed in its light."

It may be recalled that Raza was removed by the Supreme Court recently after he served the bank for over a decade.

His departure from Bank may pave way for bringing names of those defaulters who have never been divulged; not even to the apex court.

One such name is that of Mr. Islam uddin Sheikh who despite being defaulter of Rs 1.70 billion got another loan of 75 crore for Kiran Sugar Mills, insiders said.

Others involved includeAnwar Majeed, Riaz Laljee and Iqbal Z Ahmed.

It may be mentioned here that Qamar Zama Kaira and Ch. Ahmed Mukhtar had also applied for loans but the regional chief refused saying that he will be retiring soon and cannot afford such adventure.

He was removed immediately and regional chief of Sahiwal was posted there to please corrupt politicians.

Absence of Mr. Raza from the bank can be politically fatal for rulers and very dangerous for the mafia ruling the bank.
