Supreme Court Invoked Against Illegalities in the National Bank

Financial Advisor of President Destroying the Institution

NBP's Jahangir Filing Another Petition Within Days

Removal of NBP Media Team on Cards

Islamabad:

The staff as well as union of National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) struggling to cleanse the institution of corrupt and politically motivate bankers have challenged the appointment of acting president Qamar Hussain citing blatant violation of rules, regulations and the recent judgement of the Supreme Court which paved the way for removal of former president and CEO Ali Raza.

Mir Muhammad Idrees, the one who challenged the appointment of Ali Raza and got him ousted has again invoked the Supreme Court saying that neither the laws nor the SC's latest judgment have been followed in appointing Qamar as acting president.

Insiders say that an SEVP of the bank who recently got a very lucrative posting amid a wave of transfers and postings is behind the latest petition.

The petitioner through Manzoor Qadir Advocate has prayed that the appointment of Qamar Hussain should be declared illegal because law of the land does not permits the appointment of an acting president on a permanent post for unlimited period.

The plaintiff  also mentioned that the acting president NBP had called the annual general meeting (AGM) with an aim to got the perks and privileges of former president Ali Raza approved.

This was a highly illegal step as neither the serving acting president was fit to do so nor does the former president could be given such hefty packages from the national kitty.

The petitioner has also stated that he has paid Rs37.568 million to former president NBP as performance bonus without any approval that proved his mala fide intentions.

The petitioner has also sought the intervention of the court in barring Qamar Hussain, from paying Rs54 million in the head of provident fund to the former president Mr. Raza.

Qamar Hussain is a close confidant of President Asif Ali Zardari. He was first appointed as Chief Operating Officer of)  the bank against a post which never exists before.

Qamar used to look after very sensitive information after getting appointed as COO which before him was handled by more than one group heads of the bank under a well defined mechanism.

According to the petition Hussain use the word "President" with him and not 'Acting President'. He also forces others to call him president of the bank.

His selection cannot be justified under any rules. It is worth mentioning that the State Bank of Pakistan, Finance Minister and other concerned departments  is playing role of a silent spectator as they know that President Zardari is running the show and bank is taking care of desires of top officials including Secretary Finance.

It may be mentioned that Bank's management is sceptical of the role of its media team after its repeated failures. Some suspect them for serving the purpose of their opponents.

Presently bank is in process of hiring top media management companies to stop news off corruption in the institution.

They would never alter their ways or stop wrongdoings but would try to bar reporting which is amazing, said an insider when reached for a comment by.

Jahangir, a leader of the workers of Bank is also filing a petition in the Supreme Court against the unlawful activities of the management within days, insiders told allvoices.

It may be recalled that on Jan 17th, the Ministry of Finance had appointed Qamar Hussain, Chief Operating Officer, National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) as president of the bank on acting charge basis.

The announcement of Qamar Hussain appointment came after the removal of Ali Raza, who served the bank as president for a decade.

Qamar Hussain was been asked to take charge as acting president NBP with immediate effect, according to a finance ministry notification issued then.
