Diplomatic Reception on the auspicious occasion of the 66th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia

KARACHI August 21, 2011: The Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Karachi recently hosted Diplomatic Reception on the auspicious occasion of the 66th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia was held at Sheraton hotel.

Consul General of Republic of Indonesia Honourable Mr. Rossalis R. Adenan in his address throw the light on the Independence struggle that martyred hundred of Indonesian Heroes in fighting for their sovereignty. Independence for Indonesia, like other countries that have been colonized, is some thing that can not be described with mere words since there were so many sacrifices that our forefathers have provided to achieve it.

Indonesia and Pakistan are brotherly countries that have been enjoying excellent and long standing relations. Indonesia is one of the first countries recognized Pakistan's Independence and opened its embassy just a few week after, in the historic and beautiful city of Karachi, the former capital city of Pakistan.

Since I Started my tenure as Indonesian Consul General to the Province of Sindh In September 2010, I have a lot of opportunities to see the province and know that Pakistani people have great brotherhood feeling, towards Indonesian as they assume Indonesian people as their own brothers. This feeling has provided me with an enjoyable atmosphere in carrying out my duty as consul general. He added.

Pakistan is an important country in this region, endowed with huge natural and agricultural resources as well as beautiful places that could be found in all provinces, including Sindh.  The Indonesian Consul General in Karachi asserted that as the second largest province in Pakistan, Sindh has great potentials and play a pivotal role at the Pakistan National Economic and development agenda. Sindh's Capital City of Karachi is the largest port City and the financial capital of the Country that contributes around 30% to the national GDP and more than 65% of national tax collection. The Potentials the province of Sindh have reflects a great opportunities for foreign businessmen, including form Indonesia, to do business with their Counterparts In Pakistan, Sindh in particular.

Like Pakistan, Indonesia has also a great potential. It is A Resources-rich Country, an emerging economy with political stability as a member of the G-20, a Strong Asian democracy, the largest archipelagic country and the fourth most populous in the World.  Indonesia is the largest country in the Southeast Asia and founding member and this year as Chairman of ASEAN.

Although Indonesia Still has plenty of problems relating to poverty, inequity, infrastructure and bureaucratic inefficiency, its current economy is going stronger. Indonesia's purchasing power parity is approaching US$ 1 trillion, and its aims to be in the world's top largest economies in the coming decades. Various economic problems raised during the last three years have been responded by a number of critical policy measures to provide safety net for the poor, enhancing and protecting investment in infrastructure and social development.

The Indonesian Consul General in Karachi asserted that Indonesian government under the leadership and guidance of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has been implementing balanced budget, prudent fiscal policy and an anti-poverty-and-pro-poor program which part of our "growth-with-equity" development strategy. Indonesian government has launched a Master Plan to accelerate and expand Indonesian economy in the next 15 years. In Short, Indonesia succeeded in passing through turbulent economic conditions during the past global slowdown, and continues to experience positive economic and political development. With Foreign debt below 30% of GDP, 5% inflation rate, and economic growth rate above 6%, and sound as well as conducive internal conditions, Indonesia has truly become a Sought-after destination for potential foreign investment and business cooperation, including from Pakistan. Based on the great potentials both Indonesia and Pakistan have, the two brotherly countries could take more benefits and advantages for their respective people by further strengthening their bilateral relations.

Finally, Consul General said that as he celebrate the Independence Day in Pakistan, he would also like to take this opportunity to convey warm greetings to the people of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, who also celebrated their Independence Day on the 14th August, 2011. He express wholeheartedly sincere wishes for a prosperous future to both Indonesian and Pakistani people and best wishes to the Government and the people of Pakistan on the 64th anniversary of the independence.
